About
the book:
'The
Visitor' is a short story — 88 pages — about a
very special Christmas in the Yorkshire Dales, better known
as James Herriot-country. This publication in the English
language was written by Chris Simpson, who (as founder and
songwriter of the acoustic group Magna Carta) gained world
fame.
The craftsmanship of Simpson linked to his love of the Yorkshire
Dales (where he was born and has since lived the latter years)
becomes 'visible' to everyone who reads this precious book.
The British press was wildly enthusiastic about this debut
of Simpson and called him an author who might surpass James
Herriot, the writer of 'All Creatures Great and Small'. They
also said that this book was giong to be a Christmas classic
in the tradition of Dickens 'A Christmas Carol'...
We won't mention to much of the story here, although it must
be mentioned that the book is likely to cause a lump in your
throat.
'The Visitor' is the story of Jos Robertshaw and his wife
Emily: Yorkshire hill farmers used to struggling against the
elements as so many of the Dales families are. Jos and Emily
are fighting a different batt however, and after opening up
their self-contained world to the visitor, their lives will
never be the same....
The
Visitor is a surprising story of sorrow, love and hope. This
unique book — size 11 cm wide by 16 cm high, hardcover
and full colour jacket by Dales-artist Terry Logan —
is the ideal present for any occasion. But at Christmas it
will be a sure hit!
